The Faculty Board held its first meeting of the autumn term on 24 September. As there were no items requiring a decision on the agenda, the meeting was devoted to information.
Head of Finance Monika Bengtsson gave an overview of the budget conditions for 2026, and Head of Faculty Office Catrin Malmström provided an update on changes in the Faculty Office. Among other things, a new Head of Management Support and Communication has been appointed – Daniel Kåreda, previously Head of Administration at the Department of Physics. Recruitment is also ongoing for the position of Head of Education.
A follow-up on ongoing activities in the faculty's 2025 action plan was also presented.
The project managers for Science Village (Stage 2), professor Knut Deppert and Charlotte von Brömssen from LU Estates, presented the reading instructions for the consultation report that has been circulated. The Faculty Board will hold an extra meeting on 16 October to discuss the report. A final version will be presented in early December, ahead of the Board meeting later that month, when decisions must be made, both at the Faculty of Science and at LTH, regarding the future of the Science Village establishment (Stage 2).
The Board also received information on the strategic initiative carried out by LU this summer, which has been very successful. A total of around 357 applications were received, 86 of them to our faculty. After an initial screening, 21 men and 9 women remain. The Vice-Chancellor will decide in December on appointments and how many visiting professors will be assigned to the Faculty of Science.
The student representatives from LUNA and NDR reported, among other things, on the major cutbacks in funding for student unions in Sweden.
Finally, the Board meeting dates for 2026 were set as 11 February, 15 April, 17 June, 23 September, 4 November and 16 December.
