The Geology Library, Faculty Office, and Management move up to the second floor in the Astronomy Building

Astronomihuset.

As of 1 September, the Geology Library will be located on the second floor of the Astronomy Building, accessible to both students and staff.

The library has moved from Geocentrum and now occupies the space where the Astronomy Library was previously located. This move is part of a broader strategic initiative to gradually co-locate all four of the Faculty’s subject libraries in the Astronomy Building.

Despite the relocation – and a slightly reduced collection due to archiving and weeding – the library operates as before. Staff are on site, services remain the same, and visitors can continue to borrow materials and study at the library’s study spaces.

From 1 September, the library will be open on weekdays from 09:00 to 16:00 during the first week (1 - 5 September) to accommodate students at the start of the semester. Thereafter, regular opening hours will apply, which can be found on the Faculty Library website.

The Faculty Office and Management will also move upstairs
In connection with the library’s relocation, the Faculty Office and Management will also move to the second floor. The entrance from Sölvegatan and the library entrance will, as mentioned, be open to everyone. Visitors can walk through the library to reach the second floor and the Faculty Office. The rear entrance will remain accessible to members of staff with access cards.

The LUNA Student Union will remain in its premises on the first floor. Renovation of the ground floor to create the new study centre, planned to open in 2028, will begin in the spring.
