Board decision: CEC, INES and the Department of Geology shall be co-organised

On 25 September, the Faculty Board decided that the Centre for Environmental and Climate Science (CEC), the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science (INES) and the Department of Geology will be co-organised into a new joint department.

Furthermore, the Board took the following decisions:

  • The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences shall be established as of 1 January 2026.
  • CEC, INES and the Department of Geology shall cease to exist in their current form on 31 December 2025.
  • The new head of department and deputy head of department shall be proposed by election by those entitled to vote at the organisations concerned, and shall be appointed by the dean in accordance with the current Rules of Procedure. 
  • The nominating committee of the new department shall be composed of six members, three of whom shall be in the category of academic staff and three in the category of other staff. There shall be two members from each unit.
  • The term of office of the nominating committee shall be until 30 June 2026.
  • The process of selecting the new department's nominating committee shall start immediately after the decision on the co-organisation of CEC, INES and the Department of Geology has been taken.
  • The preparatory work for the co-organisation of CEC, INES and the Department of Geology shall start immediately after the decision has been taken.
