Quality of education
At the Faculty of Science, we are continuously working to ensure and develop the quality of our study programmes and courses. Our work with student influence, the study environment and the implementation of course evaluations are some important elements in this process. On this page, students and doctoral students can read more about how we ensure the quality of education at the faculty.
Student influence
The faculty collaborates closely with the students’ unions when working on quality assurance and quality enhancement. The students constitute an important resource through their involvement in the faculty’s committees and councils. We also work systematically for student influence by ensuring that the students take part in evaluation and development of the faculty’s activities.
Our first cycle students (Bachelor’s programmes) and second cycle students (Master’s programmes) are represented by the Lund University Science Students’ Union (LUNA), both at the faculty level and via study councils at each department.

The student health and safety representative and complaints
As a student, if you discover shortcomings in your physical or psychosocial environment, you can turn to the head of department, who is the most senior manager at your department. You can also turn to your student health and safety representative by contacting the students’ union. The student health and safety representative can act on your behalf to influence the working conditions.

Course evaluation and course analysis
Course evaluations and course analyses are key elements in the development of the faculty’s courses. After each course, students have the opportunity to complete an anonymous course evaluation. In this evaluation, you can put forward your views on the course and your suggestions for improvement.
The course director then produces a course analysis (also called a course evaluation report). This is a written report summarising the outcome of the students’ course evaluations, which also includes the teaching staff’s own reflections on the implementation of the course. The course analysis is to focus on the quality enhancement of the study programme and to clarify the most important changes that the course directors need to implement before the next instance. The completed course analysis is available after the end of the relevant course instance. Current and future students have access to previously completed course evaluation reports on the course platform or the departmental websites.

Study programme evaluation
All degree programmes in the first, second and third cycles are evaluated in a six-year rotation. The aim of these evaluations is the continuous development of the quality of our study programmes. You can read more about this work on the faculty’s intranet for employees.

SI programme
In order for all students to have favourable conditions to complete their degree programmes within the planned period of study, the faculty also offers SI sessions. SI stands for Supplemental Instruction; it is an educational model in which new students have the opportunity to meet regularly in small groups, together with an SI leader, to discuss the course. The SI leader is a student who has previously completed the course and is trained in the SI method.

The faculty has a unit that works to support teaching activities, learning and development for our teaching staff. The overall aim of this unit is to continuously raise the quality of the education you receive here with us, through skilled professional teaching staff.
