Election of Dean, Pro-Deans and members of the Faculty Board
The Nominating Committee's proposal
Nominating Committee has proposed candidates for the assignment as Dean and Pro-Deans as well as members of the Faculty Board for the term 1 January 2018 – 31 December 2020.
About the election
This election is accomplished as an e-election. A personal ballot will be posted by email 8 May to everyone entitled to vote. The ballot is valid for one submission up to 30 May 13:00. A public count will take place on 30 May, 13:00 in Molekylen, Faculty Office, Astronomihuset, Sölvegatan 27.
Who is to be appointed?
- One Dean, also chairperson of the Faculty Board
- Two Pro-Deans, with responsibility for either Postgraduate education or undergraduate and Master’s education. One of the Pro-Deans is deputy Dean and vice chairperson of the Faculty Board.
- Five teaching faculty members
- Two representatives of other employees
- Two general members
The Faculty Board is the highest decision-making body at the Faculty of Science, and has a united responsibility regarding undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, innovation and collaboration, quality and development, library, organisation, economy, staff and faculty, administration, and information. The Dean has the overall responsibility for the Faculty of Science and leads the strategic work.
Who is eligible?
University teaching faculty within the Faculty of Science with scientific competence are eligible as Dean, Pro-Deans and/or Faculty Board members. The term university faculty with scientific competence means assistant, associate, or full professor or other teaching positions requiring a PhD. Eligible as representatives for other employees are those employed at the Faculty of Science, and who are not teaching faculty members with scientific competence.
Who are entitled to vote?
Employees at Lund University whose employment is at least 50% within the Faculty of Science. The position should be permanent or at least two years of continuous employment at the Faculty.
PhD students with PhD student employment are not eligible to vote or nominate as they are considered students according to Chapter 1, 4 § of the Higher Education Ordinance.
How are the various appointments decided?
The Dean and the Pro-Dean are appointed by the Vice-Chancellor following the election to the Faculty Board. The Vice-Dean is appointed by the Dean following the election to the Faculty Board. The teaching faculty and other members are elected directly by eligible voters among the employees at the Faculty of Science. The general members are suggested by the Nomination Committee and appointed by the Vice-Chancellor.
